Love Your Mother

“The Mother’s heart is the child’s schoolroom”  Henry Ward Beecher

Mother’s Day is around the corner so why not treat her to a few free things around town.

Gilcrease Museum will be offering free admission to all mothers on Sunday in honor of Mother’s Day, and the Philbrook Museum of Art will offer free admission to everyone. Philbrook’s “Don’t Pay in May” online campaign has raised enough money so that admission to the museum will be free to all guests through May 14.

Both museums currently have on display exhibits that might have particular appeal to the mothers in the crowd. Gilcrease is showing “Home Lands: How Women Made the West,” a landmark exhibit that looks at the way women shaped the reality of the American West.

Philbrook’s current major exhibition is “American Streamlined Design,” which chronicles trends in industrial design during the first half of the 20th century, with an emphasis on making every day, household objects – from tableware to appliances – into items of aesthetic beauty as well as practicality.

How about checking out the coral and watching the sharks at the Oklahoma Aquarium? Moms get in free on Mother’s Day!  Folks at the aquarium say it’s their way of saying thanks to moms for being there “through smooth waters and rough seas.”
