One of our favorite lounge chairs is the classic Womb Chair from Knoll Studio. Designed by master architect Eero Saarinen in 1948, Womb remains a classic because of its comfort and simplicity.Whether dressed up in a luxy mohair or played down in a simple Boucle, Womb complements contemporary environments as a structural piece of art and provides a welcoming spot to nest. Why not have A Womb of One’s Own? Set it next to a window and you’re to have A Womb with a View.
Exciting NEWS just in… Knoll studio is offering a Holiday SALE on the Womb chair in selected fabrics. Take 15% off MSRP through December 31st. We would love to introduce you to the Womb chair on display here at the SR Hughes showroom and flourish some swatches for your selection. Remember there are three sizes of the Womb chair, including a child’s version. Hurry in soon or there may be no Womb at the Inn.

The B.L.O. lamp was designed by Marcel Wanders in 2001 for Flos lighting. B.L.O. is available in either a grey or blue finish. At only 7.7″ tall, this is the perfect piece to set atop an artful stack of books. Use the on/off switch to power the lamp or simply blow near the bulb to activate. How fun is that! Novelty meet function! The 40 Watt bulb will illuminate your space. The fun of showing people how this works will light up your heart. B.L.O. makes a great gift too!

Designed for Cassina in 2000, Toshiyuki Kita’s K10 Dodo chair is my pick for all-out Best of the Best when in comes to recliners. The Dodo chair is design perfection by way of two aspects: form and function – better, the “look” and the “feel”. In its closed position, the look is of a very well tailored club chair. Gone is the ridiculously overstuffed padding of most recliners we’ve come to know and abhor. To say this chair is streamlined may imply connotations of rigidity, so I choose the word “smart”. It’s a low profile piece of very functional art. You’ll find that, if form does indeed mirror content, the comfort of this chair has been as artfully produced and directly addressed as its chic contours.
Now for function… Swivel away, just don’t spill your drink (though upholstered in most high end Cassina fabrics or leathers, there should be no worries even if you do). The headrest flips back if you choose. A concealed footrest appears from beneath and locks into position. The back reclines to an almost horizontal position with the push of a lever.
It’s a club chair, it’s a swivel chair, it’s a recliner. It’s a Dodo. From the book, Made in Cassina, Kita says “The formal rigor imposed by our traditional upbringing is increasingly giving way to an informal approach, which may enable human beings to move more freely.”
Fell free to visit our showroom to take a spin, or a nap, in Dodo.
The Dodo chair is made to order at the Cassina factory just north of Milan to your specification of fabric or leather color selection.

The story of Cassina, a premier Italian furniture manufacturer, is told quite remarkably in this SKIRA published book. The companion to a Cassina exhibit at the Triennale Design Museum in 2008, “Made in Cassina” takes you on a journey from the very beginnings of the company (when it was just building small sewing tables) to the company’s ascent into the realm of design giants. Remarkable photography, historical documents such as old sketches and original designs, as well as exclusive interviews with many top designers complement the storyline to make this a fascinating piece of literature to spend a rainy afternoon with. Measuring 9.75″ x 1.25″ x 11.25″, this book also displays lovely on your Corbusier coffee table. This is a must have if you own a Cassina piece or are interested in what Italian design is all about. Available at SR Hughes! Give us a call to order or visit the showroom to pick up an in-stock copy.

From Stephanie Odegard’s Mughal Jewelry collection, the Navaratna rug was my favorite. SR Hughes was fortunate enough to be able to show one of only a handful of these creations for a brief period of time. Navaratna, for me, exemplifies quite concisely the phrase “fine art for the floor.” I sometimes got lost in the splendor of this piece of craftsmanship, continually drawn in to its complexity and depth, often staring starry-eyed at the rug for hours on end, and frequently having to be shaken out of my daze by many a coworker. Navaratna continues its world tour now, but of course, yours can be made-to-order.
Ciao, Jay

We’ve just received some new products from one of our favorite manufacturers of fine home fragrances, Antica Farmacista. Fico Verde is now available at SR Hughes in reed diffusers, liquid soaps, lotions, and a beautiful gift sets with crystal decanters. “Fresh green notes of cut grass, luscious notes of fruit and soft violet, the sweetness of wild fig and powdery notes of sandlewood round out this harmonious scent” I’d highly recommend these as gifts for any occasion, the decanter sets make lovely wedding gifts especially (very tasteful). Finally, our FAVORITE scent is back in stock: Santorini. As always, we take pride in our free gift-wrapping services.
Ciao, Jay

We’ve just welcomed the Stephanie Odegard Furniture Collection into our showroom and are so proud to be able to showcase what we all agree are some of the finest handmade pieces we have ever seen. Odegard Director of Sales Mr. Steven Rappos was on site and delivering wonderful presentations regarding the production process of the rugs, furniture, lighting, and accessories. Here are some photos you might enjoy.
